Vodafone to delay 4G switch-on to coincide with iPhone 5S launch?

23 May 2013

Vodafone UK will reportedly delay the launch of commercial LTE services until late summer, according to The Daily Telegraph. It is claimed that the decision to postpone the introduction of 4G services has been made with a view to having the launch coincide with the introduction of the latest iPhone model. With Vodafone UK having initially said it would switch on its LTE network in June 2013, the report claims it now will not launch until August or September after manufacturing delays pushed back the release date for the iPhone 5S. Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao was cited as saying of the UK cellco’s 4G launch plans: ‘End of the summer means when there’s going to be a good commercial moment for launching 4G … EE had a little bit of an advantage because of the iPhone at 1800MHz [EE’s 4G frequency]. To be honest that [advantage] will go away as soon as we launch our 4G [network].’
