23 May 2013

Moldova’s leading mobile operator Orange Moldova has expanded its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to include ‘the northern capital’ Balti, the second city to benefit from the superfast wireless 4G network, Orange CEO Liudmila Climoc announced. According to the press release, Balti’s residential and business population will have access to theoretical mobile download speeds of up to 100Mbps.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Orange Moldova was the country’s first operator to launch commercial LTE services in Chisinau in November 2012, a week after receiving its licence to use the technology. At end-March 2013 the company had a total of 2.5 million mobile subscribers and dominated the wireless market with a 60.5% share of the users.
