M1 to invest up to SGD20m to enhance 3G signal with femtocells

Singapore’s M1 Limited (M1) has revealed it has contracted French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a small cell/femtocell solution to improve indoor capacity and coverage on its 3G network. Depending on the extent of the deployment, the cellco will spend between SGD5 million and SGD20 million (USD3.97 million and USD15.91 million) in the project. M1’s new femtocell solution is expected to be made available in the third quarter of 2013.
