BT’s Wi-Fi hotspots surpass 5m mark

BT has announced a milestone in the rollout of its Wi-Fi hotspot network, revealing that it now has more than five million active hotspots across the country. Breaking down the geographical spread of its access points, BT noted it currently has more than 764,000 places where people can connect via BT Wi-fi in the South East, 464,000 in Scotland, 519,000 in the East, 501,000 in the South West, and more than 543,000 in London. Further, the telco noted that it is currently adding new hotspots at a rate of roughly 20,000 per week.

BT also revealed that it registered more than 400 million connections across its Wi-Fi infrastructure between April 2012 and March 2013, during which period more than 13 petabytes (PB) were consumed.
