US self-styled ‘freemium’ 4G provider NetZero, which piggybacks on Clearwire’s national WiMAX network, has revealed that it saw its number of active mobile broadband accounts increase 28% quarter-on-quarter to reach 41,000 subscriptions at 31 March 2013. The improved uptake has provided NetZero’s parent company, United Online, ‘with an opportunity to expand the NetZero brand name into a major growth market’ CEO Mark Goldston revealed. NetZero launched in March 2012, hitting the headlines with its promise to offer would-be users a free one-year trial of its service.
