Mobile number portability in Israel surges

2 May 2013

Almost one million of Israel’s mobile subscribers switched from one provider to another over the last six months, information released by the country’s Ministry of Communications (MoC) reveals. Compared to previous levels of number porting, the numbers represent a significant increase, with the regulator noting that in the first quarter of 2013 a total of 461,288 mobile subscribers switched to a different provider, more than double the 206,402 that ported numbers in the same quarter a year earlier. The total in 1Q13 was, however, lower than the preceeding quarter, which saw a record 490,651 mobile accounts ported from one operator to another.

In the fixed line arena, meanwhile, increases in number portability were also reported, though these were not as marked, with 188,228 customers switching in the six months ended 31 March 2013, compared to 166,289 in the same period a year earlier.
