Algar Telecom to launch 4G MVNO?

2 May 2013

PrepaidMVNO writes that Brazil’s Algar Telecom is considering options to launch a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service over a 4G network of one of the country’s network operators, in an effort to address the corporate market lying outside its existing network footprint. Speaking at the LTE LatAm seminar in Rio de Janeiro, the group’s chief technical officer Antonio Lima said that Algar Telecom did not take part in last year’s auction of 2.5GHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) frequencies, and that it will be ‘difficult’ for it to participate in the 700MHz auction. He said though, that Algar intends to reuse its 2G spectrum to launch 4G services.
