MetroPCS LTE subs reach 3.5m as overall user base drops 5%

US mobile operator MetroPCS has reported that its Long Term Evolution (LTE) subscriber base has topped 3.5 million, and now accounts for around 39% of the company’s overall customer base; it reported 2.2 million LTE customers at 31 December 2012. However the cellco, which is in the process of merging with larger rival T-Mobile USA, noted that its overall user base dropped 5% year-on-year to 8.995 million.

In financial terms the cellco reported consolidated revenues of USD1.287 billion for the three months ended 31 March, an increase of 1% y-o-y. Operating income grew 10% to USD108 million, while the company reported adjusted EBITDA of over USD291 million, an increase of 11% on an annualised basis.
