Half of Tigo Rwanda users register SIM cards

24 Apr 2013

Two months after the introduction of the SIM Card Registration Project in Rwanda, over half of Millicom Rwanda’s (Tigo’s) subscribers have registered their SIM cards. In February 2013 the government of Rwanda, in collaboration with Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) and the National ID Project (NID), initiated the mandatory registration process as an anti-crime measure. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the registration period will run until 31 July 2013. To register their SIM card, current Tigo subscribers need to present an original national ID at one of the operator’s service centres or retail outlets.
