Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has announced plans to increase the number of its public Wi-Fi hotspots by 50% during 2013, as reported by Telecompaper citing Japanese news site The Nikkei. DoCoMo will invest an estimated JPY10 billion (USD100.95 million) to increase the total number of Wi-Fi spots to around 180,000 by March 2014. The new hubs will be installed at a variety of public locations, including retail stores, filling stations and schools, and will also provide localised and personalised services, such as information about limited availability products to people who are at a specific store.
