According to the financial newspaper Hospodarske Noviny, there may be several interested buyers in Slovak Telekom (ST). In March Slovakia’s government decided to begin negotiations on the potential sale of its 49% stake in ST, majority owned by Germany’s Deutsche Telekom (DT). The German giant holds the right of first refusal, but the newspaper says that America Movil, private equity group Penta and Vodafone may be interested. The government expects to raise between EUR600 million (USD783 million) and EUR800 million from selling its stake, and it plans to use the funds to bring Slovakia closer to creating a single national health insurance system.
