Reliance Jio Infocomm has signed an agreement with Bharti Airtel to lease data capacity on the latter’s i2i submarine cable network, the Business Standard reports. Jio Infocomm will utilise a dedicated fibre pair on i2i, which links India to Singapore, allowing the wireless broadband start-up to meet expected bandwidth demands. The two providers are set to build on the deal and will consider other areas for cooperation and development, a statement from Jio Infocomm added. As previously noted by CommsUpdate, Jio recently signed a INR12 billion (USD220.5 million) fibre sharing deal with Reliance Communications (RCOM). Under the terms of the deal, Jio will gain access to RCOM’s fibre-optic backbone network, whilst RCOM will gain reciprocal access to fibre installed by Jio.
