Vodafone NL picks OpenCloud to support LTE launch

16 Apr 2013

Vodafone’s Dutch mobile unit has selected telecoms software developer OpenCloud to supply it with its open-standards based ‘Rhino’ products to support its imminent launch of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services. The deal, which follows the signing of an agreement in December last year, will see OpenCloud supplying the cellco with its proprietary Rhino service integration server (SIS) service-broker, service capability interaction manager (SCIM) and Rhino Sentinel, which allows operators to implement an on-line charging system that can be used to charge pre- and post-paid customers. According to the vendor, the suite of products will enable Vodafone NL ‘to converge services between legacy GSM and LTE domains in order to ensure continuity of service for all Vodafone’s subscribers regardless of handset capabilities and LTE coverage’. The Netherlands spectrum auction ended in December 2012 and it is anticipated that the successful bidders will waste little time to roll out LTE services.
