Vodafone Spain to launch new VDSL2 tariff next month

15 Apr 2013

Vodafone Spain has unveiled details of a forthcoming VDSL2-based service, with the telco revealing its ‘ADSL Turbo’ tariff, which will offer downlink and uplink speeds of 35Mbps and 3.5Mbps respectively. According to Movilonia, the new product – which represents Vodafone Spain’s first commercial implementation of VDSL2 technology – will be made available from 6 May 2013, although the report notes that only 10% of the population will have access to the new service at launch. Nonetheless, it is understood that the operator intends to expand coverage to all areas where it has its own equipment in the local exchange, although no timeframe for this expansion was detailed.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, as far back as April 2010 it was reported that Vodafone Spain had launched a pilot VDSL2 network, although no location was disclosed for the trial.
