Telekom Srbija still on the market

Belgrade has indicated that it is still open to offers for state-backed telco Telekom Srbija, Broadband TV News reports, citing local press. State secretary at the ministry of finance Aleksandar Ljubic was quoted as saying that the government would ‘consider every possible credible offer to buy the company’ adding that ‘Telekom has already been on the market and could not find a strategic partner. Generally speaking, if there [was] an offer from a potential strategic partner that would enable the company secure, long-term stability, innovation and investment and [to] retain its first place in the country and region, then the government would consider such an offer.’

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that 6.94% of the telco is owned by current and former employees whilst a further 14.95% is held by Serbian citizens. The government currently holds a 58.11% stake in the operator and Telekom Srbija owns the remaining 20%.
