Shaw announces second quarter financial and operating results

Canadian cableco Shaw Communications has reported that its fiscal second-quarter and year-to-date consolidated revenues improved by 2% over each of the corresponding periods of the previous year, to CAD1.25 billion (USD1.23 billion) and CAD2.57 billion respectively, while EBITDA grew by 9% to CAD538 million in the quarter and by 8% to CAD1.14 billion in the six months ended 28 February 2013. Cable broadband internet customers reached 1.910 million at end-February, up by 7,800 in three months, while cable telephony subscribers grew by 13,000 in the quarter to 1.376 million. Shaw’s basic cable TV customer base shrank by nearly 30,000 in December-February to 2.136 million.
