Alternative Australian fixed line operator TPG Telecom has announced the launch of a 1Gbps link between Sydney and Singapore, with the company claiming the development will allow it to provide corporate customers ‘fast and reliable access between the two locations’. The service will cost AUD6,500 (USD6,854) per month, and traffic will be delivered via TPG’s PPC-1 submarine cable from ‘meet me room’ (‘MMR’) facilities in Sydney before being switched to Singapore, where it terminates at a MMR facility in a data centre in Singapore. Commenting on the product launch, Wayne Springer, TPG’s corporate sales manager, was cited as saying: ‘This is the most cost effective and aggressive pricing we know of in the market place. Our customers have been looking for a cost effective solution into Asia for a long time now. It is significantly cheaper than what many are paying for bandwidth between Sydney and Perth’.
