10 Apr 2013

UK fixed line incumbent BT has announced that it wholesale fibre network now passes more than 15 million premises, a figure which it claims means that more than half of the country’s premises now have access to the superfast infrastructure. In making the announcement BT claimed that its GBP2.5 billion (USD3.82 billion) fibre rollout programme is now some 18 months ahead of its original schedule, noting that Openreach engineers are currently passing between 100,000 and 200000 additional premises with fibre each week. Looking ahead, BT has said it is now on course to pass around 19 million premises by ‘the end of spring 2014’.
