Southeast Asia’s largest telecoms group by valuation, Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has reportedly teamed up with the Al Noor Group to distribute satellite-based technologies and services in Myanmar. According to a statement released yesterday by International Enterprise Singapore, Al Noor – which is based in the city-state and is currently one of the largest importers of mobile handsets in Myanmar – will assist SingTel’s efforts to sell satellite phones, broadband internet and broadcasting services in Myanmar. The move comes as SingTel jostles for control of one of two telecommunications licences being sold by the Myanmar authorities this year as they look to liberalise the tightly-controlled domestic telecoms sector.
