Eircom requests extension to Universal Service funding deadline

Ireland’s telecoms regulator the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has published a notice ‘Reference Number: 13/32’ detailing that on 28 March 2013, former monopoly Eircom submitted an extension to the deadline for its Universal Service funding application, due on 31 March. ComReg says it is considering this request and will issue a further information notice in relation to the application in due course. The watchdog published Decision No. D04/11 entitled ‘Costing of universal service obligations: Principles and Methodologies’ on 31 May 2011 and on 31 May 2012, it received an application from Eircom for funding for the provision of the universal service for the period 2009/2010.
