Vimpelcom confirms talks to offload Cambodian unit

26 Mar 2013

Vimpelcom is in talks to sell its struggling Cambodian unit Sotelco, which operates under the international telecoms group’s Beeline brand, reports PRIME news agency citing a company statement. The potential withdrawal from Cambodia follows Vimpelcom’s exit from Vietnam in April 2012, at which date it sold its 49% stake in GTel Mobile to GTEL Transmit and Infrastructure Service One Member Company Limited for USD45 million. In October 2012 it was reported that talks in Cambodia and Laos had taken place with existing players looking to consolidate their position in the market.
