Arcep outlines 1800MHz refarming plans

14 Mar 2013

Following a consultation period on the refarming of 1800MHz spectrum for Long Term Evolution (LTE), French telecoms regulator Arcep has decided that only from 25 May 2016 will these frequencies become technology neutral, a necessary step in allowing for the provision of LTE. However, the watchdog also said that operators can request for the technology restriction to be lifted before then, and Bouygues Telecom has already announced it plans to do so. Arcep will respond to the request within eight months. Currently, operators in France use 1800MHz spectrum for 2G GSM services.
