According to a report in the Trinidad & Tobago Guardian, Dominica has become the latest Caribbean country to establish an internet exchange point (IXP), with the announcement that three local internet service providers (ISPs) have teamed up with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) and US-based Packet Clearing House to launch the Dominica National Internet Exchange (DANIX). The new IXP will be beneficial to the ISPs involved – LIME (Dominica), Marpin 2K4 and SAT Telecommunications – as internet traffic originating from one Dominican ISP can now terminate on another local ISP’s network without having to go through lengthy, expensive, international routes.
