Gabon Telecom (Libertis) launching Mobi Cash

1 Mar 2013

Gabon Telecom has partnered mobile financial solutions provider Mahindra Comviva to introduce ‘Mobi Cash’ mobile money services and ‘mobiquity’ mobile financial applications enabling domestic remittances, salary disbursements and last mile financial services including cash in/cash out, utility bill payments such as electricity, water and mobile airtime recharging. Customers can also make over-the-counter (OTC) payments at shops and restaurants. A spokesperson for Gabon Telecom, which offers mobile services via its merged Libertis division, said that the implementation of mobiquity represents ‘a cost-effective banking solution… creating access to financial services for the masses.’

The mobiquity solution offers mobile wallet, payment and banking services, with over 60 deployments across 38 markets covering over 500 million mobile users globally. Gabon Telecom will also implement Mahindra Comviva’s messaging solution, ‘USSD FLARES’, a single-window web-based Service Creation Environment (SCE) designed to enable the operator to access, create, execute and manage services faster. Mahindra Comviva’s USSD products have over 90 deployments across 57 countries, delivering services to over 550 million mobile users, with over 220 million hits daily on USSD solutions.

Gabon Telecom’s Moroccan group parent Maroc Telecom launched Mobi Cash in 2010, while the mobiquity solution has also been deployed at three other Maroc Telecom subsidiaries, Onatel in Burkina Faso, Mauritel in Mauritania and Sotelma in Mali.
