Orange Switzerland signed up Finnish vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to extend and upgrade its wireless network to 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE). Under the five-year deal, NSN will supply a complete radio and core network as well as providing optimisation and care services. The upgrade work will see NSN implement its Evolved Packed Core (EPC) platform – including its Flexi Network Server (Flexi NS) and Flexi Network Gateway (Flexi NG) – as well as its NetAct network management system. Further, the vendor will roll out a Circuit Switched FallBack system, which will allow 4G subscribers to make and receive calls using 2G/3G networks. Orange Switzerland plans to launch LTE services on 1 June 2013 in ten cities.
