Etisalat Lanka rolling out LTE with Alcatel-Lucent; lightRadio solution chosen group-wide

27 Feb 2013

UAE-based group Etisalat and technology partner Alcatel-Lucent have signed a joint agreement to extend Etisalat’s LTE coverage across its multi-national footprint including a new rollout of the 4G technology in Sri Lanka, the companies announced this week at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. Etisalat’s 4G deployments in its 15 group countries will incorporate Alcatel-Lucent’s lightRadio solution going forward.

In preparation for the forthcoming award of LTE licences in Sri Lanka, Etisalat has signed an agreement with Alcatel-Lucent to ensure a prompt 4G service rollout. Dumindra Ratnayaka, CEO at Etisalat Lanka said that the move is aimed at staying at the cutting edge of mobile broadband in Sri Lanka, and builds on the launch of DC-HSPA+ technology last August, adding that: ‘This joint business collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent will enable our customers to experience cutting-edge broadband connectivity in terms of fast internet access, mobile TV applications, video streaming and video calls.’
