Online news agency BelTA reports that under the plan to increase the country’s external internet gateway capacity by 100Gbps by October, national PTO Beletelecom has invited firms to bid on two tenders to buy internet access services in the Russian and global segments. In the Russian direction, the country’s internet channel bandwidth will be raised by 60Gbps by that date, while in the western direction internet capacity will be raised by 40Gbps, it said. Beltelecom is looking for the successful contractor to commission its first 10Gbps channel by 30 March 2013.
Earlier this month CommsUpdate reported Beltelecom as saying that it is aiming to expand its internet gateway and Wi-Fi network this year. As such, the operator will increase international capacity from 350Gbps to 450Gbps, while also launching a minimum 500 new public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country. The company also owns and operates a network of 1,300 hotspots, including more than 700 in Minsk.
