E-Plus signs deal with ZTE for LTE upgrade

German cellco E-Plus has inked a deal with ZTE under which the Chinese equipment vendor will take a more substantial role in the operator’s forthcoming Long Term Evolution (LTE) network expansion. The two companies have worked together on E-Plus’s W-CDMA network, and under the new agreement ZTE will become the primary partner to deploy LTE base stations and support E-Plus with the LTE network upgrade. In a statement ZTE said it would use the existing HSPA+ grid for LTE in the 1800MHz band. No financial details were disclosed.
