Globe Telecom extends LTE footprint to Metro Manila and environs

Globe Telecom of the Philippines says it has increased its operational footprint for Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage in the country, by rolling out 4G networks in major cities in Metro Manila as well as areas around the metropolis. The new cities targeted under the expansion are Pasig, Quezon, Taguig, Manila, and Muntinlupa, as well as Cebu and Boracay (in Malay), and Aklan (the Visayas). The cellco says that within these new areas it has deployed LTE infrastructure covering major retail and commercial zones, as well as those serving government institutions, schools, sports stadia, hospitals and tourist resorts in Boracay. The carrier is currently working on Phase One of its network modernisation programme and once complete, it will begin to install LTE in other areas as well as continuing the rollout of fibre across the archipelago – which currently spans 12,000km.
