Japanese mobile giant NTT DoCoMo has revealed that its Long Term Evolution (LTE) service has passed the ten million subscribers milestone. Since August 2012 the number of subscribers to the 4G offering, branded as Xi, has doubled. The service supports peak download speeds of up to 100Mbps, and DoCoMo says it expects to increase this to 112.5Mbps in 22 cities from next month, with a further 28 cities due to be upgraded by June. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, DoCoMo had a subscriber market share in Japan of 47% at the end of December 2012, and LTE customers currently account for approximately 17% of the company’s total wireless subscriber base.
