15 Feb 2013

Ericsson has announced the signing of a five-year managed services contract with Vimpelcom, under which the Swedish vendor will manage fixed and mobile network operations for the operator in Siberia and the Urals in Russia. The contract covers more than 10,000 base stations in 41 cities, as well as over 10,000km of optical transport cables, while approximately 400 Vimpelcom employees will also be transferred to Ericsson in April. Ericsson will be responsible for network operations and field maintenance for active and passive network components, for the operator’s mobile, fixed and transport networks. The deal will enable Vimpelcom subscribers in the two regions to benefit from improved network quality and end-user experience. ‘This agreement meets Vimpelcom’s long-term plans in strategic programmes to increase operating efficiency,’ noted the company’s general director Anton Kudryashov, adding: ‘The transfer of network maintenance and support to Ericsson will allow us to more effectively optimise costs and network management… We are confident that the knowledge and experience of Ericsson in the extended network service and support will allow us to maximise our focus on business development, improve the quality of services for our customers and provide additional quality services.’
