Erik Meijer, director and chief commercial officer for Indonesian telco Indosat, says that his company is ploughing USD800 million in capital expenditure in 2013, as part of a plan to deploy an additional 25,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) across the country by the end of the year. TEMPO Interactive quotes Meijer as saying that Indosat currently has 1,000 BTS installed in Jakarta, covering the central business district, airport and Pondok Indah area. By end of fiscal 2013 however, the company is aiming to dramatically increase that, and work is already underway on the rollout of 55 BTS in Padang and Bukit Tinggi, Meijer said. The official made the announcement at the launch of Indosat’s ‘Network Modernization Program’ launch in Jakarta on Monday 4 February. The official added that this year’s CAPEX will be financed from internal cash and through bond loans. However, Meijer did not go into details about the financing of the plan.
