The 2013 Submarine Cable Map is here!

4 Feb 2013

TeleGeography’s 2013 Submarine Cable Map, sponsored by Telecom Egypt, is now available! The design of our new map was inspired by antique maps and star charts, and alludes to the historic connection between submarine cables and cartography.

While the map’s style is classic, the data are fully up-to-date, depicting 244 cable systems that are currently active or due to enter service by 2014. A timeline of submarine cable history charts new cable construction and changes in capacity and utilisation on primary international routes. Insets provide details about cable landing stations in key regions, and information graphics illustrate submarine cable latency and lit capacity by route.
