4 Feb 2013

Movistar Chile will pay out nearly CLP693 million (USD1.47 million) as compensation to the 52,000 customers affected by disruptions to its internet service in November last year, TeleSemana reports. The decision follows a collective mediation carried out by the National Consumer Service (Sernac) after the cellco received over 1,000 complaints from subscribers who were unable to access the internet. Movistar will pay out CLP3,501 to users who reported one to two days of disruption, CLP13,570 for three to six days, CLP29,406 for six to ten days whilst those disconnected for more than eleven days will receive CLP48,864. In addition, Movistar will hand out CLP4,000 to each of the 240 customers that filed complaints with Sernac.
