Mobile number portability (MNP) is now available in Qatar, having been implemented by Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Vodafone Qatar on 31 January 2013. Consumers are able to retain their existing mobile number when switching to a different service provider. Initially retail outlets in only two locations, Landmark or the City Centre, are equipped to handle MNP requests, but in the coming weeks the availability of MNP will be expanded to both operators’ entire retail networks. At the retail outlet, consumers must fill out an application, which requires a valid Qatari ID and other documents to complete. Number porting typically takes one working day once the application has been completed.
