Japan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, has posted revenue of JPY3.37 trillion (USD37 billion) for the company’s nine-month period ending 31 December 2012, up 6.2% year-on-year. The stronger sales along with falling corporate taxes helped the company’s net income to come in at JPY416.5 billion for the period under review, up 5.5% y-o-y. In guiding for its full year results, the Japanese giant said that net income was expected to reach JPY507 billion on sales of JPY4.52 trillion, unchanged from its previous guidance. Between December 2011 and December 2012 NTT DoCoMo’s wireless subscriber base grew 2.3% to just under 61 million, with the number of LTE subscribers soaring from 1.1 million to 8.7 million. The company did warn, however, that ‘competition in Japan’s mobile telecommunications market is expected to remain intense in such areas as acquisition of subscribers and further improvement of service offerings’.
