NCA lifts MTN Ghana ban

30 Jan 2013

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has lifted its ban on MTN Ghana from selling SIM cards. The watchdog imposed the ban last November following a series of service disruptions on the cellco’s network. Since then, the NCA has been monitoring quality of service (QoS) indicators such as the call drop rate, call setup time and the call congestion rate, and it says that an improvement in the situation has prompted it to re-allow MTN to sign up new subscribers. ‘Considering the continual improvement … to customer experience, the Authority, with immediate effect, has lifted the directive of 30 November 30 2012 to MTN to cease selling and/or adding new SIM cards/subscribers to MTN network until further notice,’ said the regulator in a statement.
