Orange Armenia to extend network coverage to rural areas

28 Jan 2013

Mobile network operator Orange Armenia has issued an update on its web site saying that it plans to extend the coverage of its network in the following rural areas: Ditsmayr, Geghanush, Gomaran, Bnunis (Syunik region) and Antaramut, Kachachut (Lori region). Under the expansion plan, all of the new areas covered will be provisioned with HSPA technology capable of delivering maximum download speeds of 21.6Mbps. The cellco’s CEO Francis Gelibter, is quoted as saying: ‘[We] started with a [maximum download capacity of] 7.2Mbps on the network and 83% coverage on 5 November 2009, and today I am pleased to state that our services are available to more than 95% of the Armenian population. Moreover, in Yerevan, Gumri and Vanadzor we offer up to 42Mbps [download network speeds], and maximum downloads of 21Mbps in the rest of the country. In addition to the network extension in the aforementioned villages, Orange Armenia will continue to expand its network, with due care for its performance and quality. Even though Orange has over-achieved its coverage obligations under the terms of its licence, I am pleased that we will be able to provide a solution for the villages that are not yet covered by any operator’.
