CAT, Hutch CDMA to be switched off at end of March

21 Jan 2013

Thailand’s True Corp and CAT Telecom have announced that they will switch off their respective CDMA mobile networks at the end of March 2013, local newspaper The Nation reported. True Corp disclosed that there are around 40,000 remaining customers of its Hutch CDMA network in 25 central provinces, which the group acquired from Hutchison Whampoa in January 2011 before migrating most of the users to HSPA-based services which it rolled out via a partnership with state-run CAT Telecom. True had previously intended to switch off the Hutch network on 27 January 2013 but says it delayed the move until CAT was ready to shut down its own ‘CAT CDMA’ branded CDMA network covering Thailand’s other 52 provinces.
