Fibre in new homes to be compulsory

16 Jan 2013

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued a mandate that any newly built home in areas with access to fibre networks must be installed with a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connection, China Daily reports. The new rules come into force from 1 April 2013, and will require the new FTTH networks to be open access freeing customers from restrictions to specific service providers. The MIIT decision is part of the government’s plans to connect 40 million homes to FTTH networks by 2015.
