According to local press reports, Colombian watchdog Comision de Regulacion de Comunicaciones (CRC) has finalised regulatory measures to be taken against dominant cellco Claro. Business publication Portafolio revealed that Claro has been told of the regulations but that they would not be made public until the operator ‘uses all the resources which it has a right to use’. BNamericas quotes Carlos Marquez, the director of CRC, as saying: ‘We will take some general regulator measures which seek to generate a balance regarding the access charges that some companies have compared to others’. The most recent draft of bidding rules for an upcoming spectrum auction in February stated that steps would be taken to control Claro’s dominance.
