Ethiopian state-backed full-service operator Ethio Telecom has announced the conclusion of its management contract with France Telecom-Orange (FT-Orange). As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Ethio Telecom inked the deal with the European telecoms giant in December 2010, and under the terms of the contract FT-Orange agreed to manage the restructured company for a two-year period. Following the ending of the agreement, Ethio Telecom has confirmed that local executives have now taken over management positions at the telco, ‘as per the final succession plan stated in the management contract’.
Meanwhile, the two companies will maintain a working relationship, with Ethio Telecom noting that the two inked a support framework agreement on 13 December 2012, to be managed ‘under the auspices of the Ethio Telecom board of directors’. This framework agreement is understood to be valid for a year. Further, as part of the partnership between the two companies, FT-Orange will also offer support with regards to programmes related to network design, architecture, technology selection negotiation and related technical areas for Ethio Telecom.
