SSTL pledges to continue service beyond 18 January

3 Jan 2013

Russian-backed cellco Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL), which operates under the MTS India brand name, has announced that it will continue offering services after 18 January, when its licences are terminated. The operator was one of the companies to have its concession revoked by the Supreme Court in February last year and opted not to participate in the reauction of spectrum in November. To date SSTL has opted to pursue legal and diplomatic means to overturn the apex court’s decision, but to no avail. The operator said in a statement: ‘The company has taken and is taking all the possible steps to ensure the continuity of its services beyond January 18, 2013. MTS is hopeful that the Supreme Court will take up its curative petition before January 18, 2013.’
