NEC signs multi-million backhaul deal with Tele2

24 Dec 2012

Japan’s NEC Corporation reports that its NEC Europe subsidiary has signed a multi-million, multi-year global framework contract with Sweden’s Tele2 covering the expansion and upgrade of Tele2’s networks in ten countries across Europe and Russia. Starting in Russia, NEC will provide its iPASOLINK series of microwave radio solutions, and will also provide a range of professional services, such as training and maintenance support. The vendor’s press release says that the high capacity of NEC’s iPASOLINK makes it a strong fit for future backhaul demands, allowing operators to roll out 4G LTE services ‘cost-effectively while maximising network performance and quality of service’, while ‘customer experience has proven iPASOLINK to be a leading microwave platform for Carrier Ethernet, a key enabler of a new generation of mobile transport networks.’

‘We see more and more mobile operators renewing their mobile backhaul to stay ahead of the continued increase in mobile traffic globally,’ said Fredrik Tumegard, VP, NEC Europe. ‘NEC’s global leadership in microwave transport technology, manifested in its iPASOLINK series, allows Tele2 to provide the best possible network coverage to their customers in Europe and Russia.’
