Sweden’s Post & Telecom Agency (PTS) has announced that grants totaling SEK160 million (USD24.5 million) are available in 2013 for rural fibre broadband network rollouts, following the SEK80 million it granted for similar projects in 2012. Since its inception in October 2010, the rural broadband fund, co-funded by the PTS, has issued SEK178.5 million in grants, enabling an estimated 35,000 homes and businesses in rural areas to subscribe to high speed fibre access services, the regulator said.
