J:COM approaches two million broadband subs

The Japanese cable operator Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM), whose shareholders include KDDI and Sumitomo, has reported 3.73 million subscribing households on its networks at the end of November 2012, up by 123,700 in twelve months. Combined revenue generating units (RGUs) for cable television, high speed internet access and telephony services reached approximately 7.54 million, up 477,600 or 6.8% from 30 November 2011. There were 1.96 million broadband subscribers by the same date, up 8.8% from 1.80 million a year earlier. J:COM is currently in negotiations to acquire rival operator Japan Cablenet (JCN), which is 95.6% owned by KDDI.
