SC orders Bharti to reconnect Aircel SMS services

11 Dec 2012

DNA India writes that the Supreme Court has instructed Bharti Airtel to resume SMS interconnection with Aircel, after the latter agreed to meet Airtel’s request to pay termination fees of INR0.10 (USD0.0018) per SMS. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Bharti terminated interconnection with Aircel last month, claiming that it was flooding its network with ‘free spam messages’ which were negatively impacting the quality of service to Bharti’s own subscribers. Aircel meanwhile, has accused Bharti of using pressure tactics and abusing its dominant position in the market to drive up SMS termination charges.
