T-Mobile’s LTE network boasts 99% coverage in Budapest

T-Mobile Hungary says its fourth-generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile network is now available to 99% (outdoor coverage) of the residents of Budapest; indoor coverage has increased to 83%. Further, the LTE has been rolled out to over 60 towns and cities across the country, boosting 4G/LTE coverage to almost 27% of the population. The cellco also reports that it is now offering 4G-enabled smartphones for T-Mobile customers in the country and that from 1 January 2013 it will revamp its mobile internet packages to reflect the increased availability of ultra-high speed mobile broadband in Hungary. For example, the cellco is planning to offer a Net&Roll L package offering 30GB of capped data and a maximum 60Mbps/22Mbps (down/up) connection for HUF8,500 (USD24.20) per month, with a three-month discount at HUF5,500/month. In terms of new handsets, the firm is foregrounding the Nokia 820 LTE, Nokia 920 LTE, Samsung SIII LTE and Samsung Note II LTE handsets in its Christmas range of offers, with CEO Christopher Mattheisen, noting: ‘Making 4G/LTE-enabled smart phones available will give big impetus to the spread of the 4G/LTE service. As the market leader [T-Mobile] was the first to bring its customers the new generation mobile service a year ago and we are happy that as a result of our latest developments it is also our customers who will be able to use the service on their smartphones.’
