Telenor Norge enhances network with HD Voice

5 Dec 2012

Telenor Norge claims to have become the first mobile network operator in Norway to offer HD Voice services over its entire infrastructure. In a press release the cellco confirmed that the service will be automatically available for all Telenor Norge customers at no additional charge, although it noted that subscribers must own an HD Voice-enabled handset, as must the person being called. Further, the operator has also said that HD Voice will be offered only to customers on its 3G network, though it expects to expand the offering to 2G subscribers ‘during the course of the year’; it noted, however, that there are few mobile handsets that support the service on the older infrastructure. Looking further ahead, Telenor Norge has also suggested that there will be support for HD Voice calls between customers on its 2G and 3G networks, though such connectivity remains some way off.
