Cellcom Liberia launches low-cost internet tariff

3 Dec 2012

Mobile network operator Cellcom Liberia has launched a range of low-cost internet tariffs for its GPRS/EDGE users, its head of corporate communications Dr Kimmie L Weeks has announced. At a press conference the official claimed that the new offers mean Cellcom now provides the lowest rates for mobile internet access in the country. The Inquirer newspaper quotes Weeks as saying: ‘What’s great about this is that the GPRS/EDGE works with any phone that has internet capability, so customers do not have to have a smartphone to enjoy the benefits.’

The official went on to say that unlike the cellco’s ‘4G’ network which is currently deployed in Montserrado and Grand Bassa [note: TeleGeography designates the service as 3.5G given it is based on HSPA+ technology], Cellcom users can enjoy GPRS/EDGE ‘anywhere’ in Liberia with plans costing USD1 (24hrs access), USD6 (one week) or USD20 (one month).
